These carriages were built in the 1930s by the Italian State Railways to speed up local transport, which had been steam-powered until then. Major Italian companies such as Fiat Ferroviaria, Breda and Ansaldo were responsible for the design and each of them built the models with different characteristics, both in aesthetics and engine. All versions were equipped with a diesel engine with mechanical transmission. The last models were used on the network of the F.S., Ferrovie dello Stato until the beginning of the 80s.
For our StahlRad replica, we concentrate on the Fiat version.
